Waterproofing Your Old Basement!
In Central New York, our old homes are some of our most prized possesions. But as beautiful as they are, often these homes come with aged parts, especially when it comes to their basements. Often they have little to no footing, stone basements often experience excessive seepage through its cracks, and brick foundations can experience excessive moisture. All of this might make you skeptical, but have no fear! We are here to offer you tips to make sure your basement looks a little less horrific, and a little more HISTORIC!
PROBLEM 1: WATER SEEPAGE THROUGH THE WALLS
From poured concrete foundations to monolithic, stone, block or tile basement walls, no basement is safe from water leaking through the basement walls, floor, and floor joist and then entering into your home, especially older houses.
SOLUTON 1: DIRECT WATER AWAY FROM YOUR FOUNDATION BY INSTALLING AN INTERIOR FRENCH DRAIN SYSTEM.
In order for water to not seep through from the outside, it is best to install an interior drainage system, so the water is quickly trapped and brought to a sump pump. At Connecticut Basement Systems, we suggest installing the WaterGuard drainage system along the perimeter of your basement. WaterGuard® is an innovative interior French drain that captures water before it reaches your basement floor, then transports the water to a sump pit. When the water level in the sump pump (or sump liner) elevates a float valve, the pump turns on and discharges the water outside your house.
PROBLEM 2: THE EXISTING FLOORS ARE CRACKING, ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER
Based on the type of floor you have, often they are so old that they are cracked, causing water from the outside and pipes to seep in.
SOLUTION 2: INSTALL A SUMP PUMP
To make sure water is drained properly, installing a sump pump is pertinent. Here at Connecticut Basement Systems, we offer two sump pump systems to make sure your waterproofing needs are met. Our TripleSafe™ Sump Pump System includes airtight lid, primary pump, secondary pump, and battery backup sump pump. We also offer our premiere SuperSump system. The SuperSump® includes a powerful Zoeller® â…“ horsepower cast-iron sump pump, capable of pumping 2,220 gallons of water per hour at an 8-foot head out of your basement. The advantages of a sump pump include preventing flood damage, reducing the risk of mold and mildew, and reducing the risk of electric fire.
