Crawl Space Repair Photo Album: Cold, Damp Crawlspace Transformation in Cortland

This basement in Cortland flooded several times. In order to prevent another flooding event Waterguard was installed along with SuperSump Plus sump system. There is also a vented crawlspace under a large section of the house. The room above the crawlspace was always cold, even though there was pink fiberglass insulation installed between the floor joists. After years of humid air coming in to the crawlspace through the vents, and moisture permeating through the walls and up from the gravel floor, the fiberglass insulation started becoming wet and heavy. Since the fiberglass insulation hung on to the moisture it began to sag, droop and even fall. This is quite common in vented crawlspaces. The wet insulation can also be damaging to the wooden flooring system that it's attached to. Woodford Brothers removed all the old fiber glass insulation. Then, TerraBlock insulation was installed on the gravel floor. Next, SilverGlo insulation is installed onto the block walls permanently, using drilled in fasteners that will not come loose. Once the Silverglo was installed on the walls, the Silverglo material is then cut to fit into each rim joist cavity and spray foamed around the edge to seal off outside air completely. The final stage of the process is to seal off vents and install the Cleanspace crawlspace encapsulation material. This seals the crawlspace from all outside air and moisture. Now, a dehumidifier will control the moisture of the interior air. The result is a dry usable space with warm clean air in the home above.
